Balancing Motherhood and Creativity in ISO
"Balancing breakdowns and breakthroughs. I think if we push for normalcy we could miss the beauty of this time." Lisa Kearns, @kearnsie2000
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a surreal time. As a mother and step-mother of six, 4 of whom live at home, I was very interested in how other women were coping in lockdown. I asked some creative Mamas about their own experiences,
I have to say, that I related to each and every story. In these strange, uncertain times, it has been so grounding and comforting to connect to other women's expoeriences.

I love the timelessness of vintage clothing. It started with me through my childhood dress up box with my mum and aunties clothes from the 70’s and 80’s. There’s something about sensory nostalgia that manifests itself in vintage clothing and retro shops. No matter what decade or era you have a soft spot for, I think we all know what a smell or a piece of music can do to us - how it transports us to a memory or place that truly makes us feel at home. I love the tradition and ritual of being able to pass things on from generation to generation - to me it’s pure magic!
Sunny Muse -Roller Babe Jo Christy
Roller Dance in Australia has taken awhile to take off. Quad Fit has really been at the vanguard. Being active as you get older as a woman is especially important. I want to be strong and athletic, and it doesn’t feel like effort to skate. For me, Quad Fit is just as much about connecting socially and supporting each other as being physically fit. Most of us are mums, and some are a little bit older, and skating doesn’t feel like going to the gym. It feels more like fun, especially when the music's playing!

What does living creatively mean to you?
At the moment that is a fine balance between feeling creative enough to create art for money and then to be able to create art that I want to be creating... But it's really hard especially when you start monitising your passion.
